Perched awkwardly, this strange songbird stares with a glint of intellect in its empty eyes. A stylish plaster mask conceals its face, while two pairs of wings ruffle over its body’s somber shades. A crafted tail of black roses, ribbon, ornate keys, and skeletal vertebrae extends almost triple the length of the rest of this creature’s body.

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Haunting Melody (Su): A nosoi’s song has the power to grip the spirits of those that hear it. All living and undead creatures within a 60-foot spread must make a DC 19 (10+.5HD+ Raven’s Cha mod) Will saving throw or be fascinated. A creature that successfully saves is not subject to the same nosoi’s song for 24 hours.
This effect continues for as long as the nosoi sings and for 1 round thereafter. A nosoi can sing for a number or rounds per day equal to twice its Hit Dice. This is a sonic mind-affecting charm effect. This ability can affect undead creatures, even though the undead subtype makes such creatures immune to mind-affecting effects (though undead creatures with immunity to mind-affecting effects from a source other than their creature type are still immune). The save DC is Charisma-based.

Niv began its existence as a messenger and scribe of Pharasma’s spire. After several millennia of mostly unbroken monotony, Niv was given the task of following around a strange woman of questionable morals and an unknown destiny. What Niv didn’t know is that she was not coming back.

As the latent arcane power within Raven awoke and Niv made her journey into the material world, the bonds of familiar and master formed between the two of them. Niv appeared perched on Raven’s shoulder as the nosoi entered the world and did not expect to see what it did. It’s new master was elbow deep in a recently destroyed zombie pulling out the key to a nearby chest. The two jumped back in shock at the psychopomp’s sudden appearance into the world and Raven’s scream literally woke the dead. Cursing, her new master hid under a pile of corpses as the undead came in search of the disturbance. Niv began her song as the undead approached and the trio of corpses instantly became fascinated. Raven did as well, Niv’s song being one of the most beautiful and haunting melodies she had ever heard. Breaking her own fascination, Raven took command of the undead. Afterward, Raven and Niv became almost inseparable, their friendship surpassing even the bonds of familiar and master.

Over the past five years, Niv has experienced more than almost any of its kind. Tales of adventures through undead-filled crypts, escaping angry mobs of savage peoples, and of treasure hunts galore are just the tip of what Niv has gone through with Raven and it wouldn’t trade those times for anything. The tail that Niv has crafted for itself and its adventures rank it among one of the most prestigious among its kind.
